Facebook App Ranked As Most Used App In 2016

We use a variety of different apps on a daily basis, and it is also sometimes situational, like translation apps or currency conversion apps might only be used when traveling, while apps like the calculator or email apps could be used on a daily basis regardless of where you are. That being said, Nielsen has recently compiled the top smartphone apps of 2016.

Sitting right at the top is none other than de facto social network, Facebook. According to Nielsen's stats, Facebook's mobile app averages 146 million unique users every month, and this is actually an increase from last year by 14%. Coming in second place is none other than Facebook Messenger, which averages around 129 million unique users a month and grew by 28% from last year.

Other social media platforms listed in the top 10 apps is Instagram, which is also owned by Facebook. Unfortunately it seems that Twitter did not make the cut, which seems to lend itself to the narrative that the company could be in trouble (they apparently tried to sell themselves to Disney earlier this year).

Other interesting apps listed in the top 10 include Apple Music which has 68 million average unique users a month (Spotify wasn't listed either despite having a larger user base), and Amazon's shopping app.
