WhatsApp Beta For Android Introduced New Emojis

These emojis have already been present on iOS 10.2 and Android 7.1 Nougat.

Emojis are the new words. In order to further enhance your facepalm moments and shrug reactions, WhatsApp is reportedly bringing the latest set of emojis from Unicode 9.0 to its next beta version. The WhatsApp 2.17.44 beta version contains emojis including avocado, butterfly, bacon, nauseated face, and much more. All these emojis are already present in iOS 10.2 and Android 7.1 Nougat. However, these will now be available through the new WhatsApp beta version irrespective of which version of Android you are using. With the iOS 10.2 and Android Nougat release, plenty of emojis were approved such as gender equality and profession emojis. If you want to test out these new emojis, all you have to do is sign up for the WhatsApp beta through Play Store and update the app. Once you do that, you will have access to all these new emojis. Additionally, you can also install the beta version manually from APK Mirror. It is to be noted that since it is a beta version, there might be some stability issues and hence, you should only test out the beta version if you have a backup of the data or are comfortable losing it in adverse conditions.

To recall, the iOS 10.2 includes new emoji professions with racial and gender diversity including roles such as firefighter and judge. A total of 16 new professions have been added to the emoji keyboard in both genders and all six skin tone options. This takes the list of jobs to 192 distinct images. There are also a host of new animal emojis which are included in iOS 10.2 such as fox, duck, squid, and gorilla.

Meanwhile, Google also added a host of new emojis to its Android Nougat OS. Embracing the options available in the Unicode 9, Google added diverse and gender equal professions. These include artist, astronaut, judge, firefighter, scientist, student, and technologist.

In order to change the skin tone of emojis, one needs to just tap and hold. In Android Nougat, long hold also lets you choose gender of the emoji. Additionally, there's also a new batch of emojis which represent single parent families and more symbols along with the rainbow pride flag, male and female symbols, and much more. In a recent update, WhatsApp changed the layout of its emojis and made them appear bigger in size. For example, if you send a single emoji, it will appear like a big sticker of sorts but if you send two emojis placed next to each other without a space, it will be sent as only a slightly enlarged version. However, if you place emojis right after a message, then it will sent as a standard sized one.

The billion-users-strong messenger service routinely adds new features to retain worldwide popularity and better facilitate communication. Recently, it was revealed that WhatsApp was working on a new feature that could allow one to share their live location in group chats. It could also allow one to recall and edit sent messages. We are yet to see these features roll out on a stable version.
